The Concept of "Yuru-Fuwa" (Fluffy & Cheerful) Metal
Formed in Tokyo in August 2019, NEMOPHILA adopted an endearing catchphrase that surprised the heavy metal world: "Yuru-fuwa (ゆるふわ) Heavy Metal", loosely translating to "fluffy, relaxed, and cheerful". In interviews and offstage banter, the members display radiant smiles, warmth, and easygoing humour.
Yet the moment the downbeat drops, NEMOPHILA transforms into a ferocious modern metal machine. Their sound incorporates elements of modern American metalcore, melodic death metal, and high-octane hard rock, driven by 7-string drop-tuned guitars and earth-shattering drum grooves.
Mayu's Vocal Duality & The Rhythm Engine
At the front of the band is mayu, whose vocal range is one of the most astonishing in contemporary rock. In the span of a single musical bar, she shifts effortlessly from pristine, soulful clean belts into terrifying, chest-rattling death growls and guttural shrieks.
Supporting this vocal tempest is a rhythm section of exceptional caliber. Drummer Tamu Murata was already an internationally acclaimed YouTube percussionist before joining, celebrated for her razor-sharp snare timing and speed. Alongside 5-string bassist Haraguchi-san and guitar virtuoso Hazuki, NEMOPHILA produces an unshakeable wall of sound.
Global Conquest: From Whisky a Go Go to Nippon Budokan
In 2022, NEMOPHILA made their US debut, performing at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento alongside Slipknot, Kiss, and Judas Priest, followed by a sold-out headline show at the legendary Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood. In February 2024, they completed a monumental triumph by headlining their first solo concert at the iconic Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.
