The Birth of "Harajuku-Core"
Formed in 2015 in Kichijoji, Tokyo, by high school classmates Yukina, Matsuri, and Hettsu, Hanabie. (花冷え。 - meaning "the chilly spring weather when cherry blossoms bloom") emerged from the Japanese underground metalcore circuit with a revolutionary visual and sonic manifesto.
They coined their self-created genre: "Harajuku-Core" (原宿コア). It is a wildly colorful, chaotic fusion that blends the pastel punk and Decora street fashions of Tokyo's Harajuku fashion district with blistering nu-metal riffs, EDM rave synthesizers, deathcore pig squeals, and playful, relatable lyrics about modern youth life.
Viral Breakthrough: "Pardon Me, I Have To Go Now"
In January 2023, Hanabie. released the music video for "Pardon Me, I Have To Go Now" (お先に失礼します。), a hilarious yet crushing metalcore anthem depicting the frustration of office workers escaping mandatory overtime. The video became an instant viral sensation on TikTok and YouTube, racking up millions of global views.
Frontwoman Yukina shocked international metal commentators with her ability to deliver ear-piercing gutter growls and pig squeals from her compact 149cm frame, while guitarist Matsuri delivers crystal-clear pop-punk choruses and intricate 7-string breakdowns.
Conquering the Global Festival Circuit
Following their major label signing with Sony Music / Century Media Records and the arrival of powerhouse drummer Chika, Hanabie. embarked on whirlwind world tours. In 2023–2024, they stormed major international festival main stages including the UK's Download Festival, Germany's Wacken Open Air, Belgium's Graspop Metal Meeting, and the US's Aftershock and Louder Than Life.
